On-going Projects:

1. Photojournalism of your Learning Spaces

Last year we kicked off a project to capture images on Flickr that reflected learning space attributes (postive and negative) which caught our attention.

What we asked:  we suggested that you and your colleagues take pictures and consider a series of questions to prompt your photographic creativity (e.g., Your favorite place to study, Your least favorite place to study, Where you like to hang out with your friends on campus in the spring, etc...)  The point was to prompt your thinking about attributes of learning spaces that a picture might capture and convey.

Putting it on Flickr: To put your images up in Flickr, you first need a Flickr account! These are free for a ‘basic account’ but you must sign up to get that.  The signup for Flickr begins by connecting to the Flickr home page at http://www.flickr.com.  Once you have your account you need to move the pictures from your computer to your Flickr account.  Once that’s done you need to get your images uploaded. To upload the images:There three ways to do this –

When uploading you can one or more tags to the images. The key to finding these images is how you tag them.  We suggest that you use the tag "learningspaces" or, "learning_spaces".  There over a thousand images with the tag "learningspaces" and another 1475 images with the tag "learning_spaces".

There is an Educause group in Flickr for learning spaces called LearningSpaces_Photojournal that you can also put your photos in if you'd like. It's a container at present with virtually nothing in it ....yet!

2. The 2007 Experiment - Describe your learning space building project -

Ask for critical review and input from your colleagues.

At the Educause 2007 meeting in Seattle the group attending the Learning Spaces Constituency Group indicated there were a lot of projects in proposed, in planning, or in process for new or renovated learning spaces.  The suggestion was to post on this wiki a summary of your learning space project for the community to learn from, review, and provide input into.  Use this space below to present your projects.

3. Classroom Design Guildelines

Several people suggested that collecting Classroom Design Standards would be helpful to the community. To get things started here are a few links:

  1. Emory College Classroom Design Guildelines
  2. UC Santa Cruz Classroom Guidelines
  3. University of Cincinnati Design Guidance: Learning Environments
