General FAQsWho can get an EDUCAUSE Connect account?Any staff, employee, or faculty of an EDUCAUSE member organization may create content on EDUCAUSE Connect. All content on EDUCAUSE Connect is publically accessible. How do I access my EDUCAUSE Connect account?You must first have an EDUCAUSE Profile.Then, go to EDUCAUSE Connect and log in using the "Login" icon in the upper right-hand portion of the page and the same information you entered for your EDUCAUSE Profile (the system is separate but uses the same information). What technology is behind EDUCAUSE Connect?EDUCAUSE Connect is supported by an open source product called Drupal, with a few local modifications to integrate it into our Web environment. Can I use my own blog editor to post to my blog?Yes. Any editor that supports the MetablogAPI can be used to post to your blog. Using the API, the path to your blog is http://connect.educause.edu/xmlrpc.php. What kind of technology is behind the blog entry page's "Recommendation" button?This feature is supported by the Yahoo Content Analysis Web service. More information can be found at Yahoo!. Can I use my blog to podcast?Yes. You can upload an audio file as part of posting a blog entry. The maximum size of the file cannot exceed 50MB. Does your service support APIs?Yes. We currently support the MetablogAPI. How do I suggest a newsfeed to add to EDUCAUSE Connect?Send us the information through the EDUCAUSE Connect feedback page. Can you upload files to a wiki?Yes. Files will all show up at the bottom of the page. If you want to embed files in the in the text, you can use the url of the attached file. Depending on the durability of your content, you may find it desirable to consider submitting for inclusion in the library. Does a photo have to be added to the Connect photo library first before you can post it to a wiki?No, you can link to any image you want, whether it be on the internet or a file that you have uploaded. If you're using a contemporary browser with javascript enabled, select the image icon in the toolbar of the editor and upload your image. Older browsers may not see the wysiwyg editor ... if so, you can upload images as an attachment and edit your entry using basic html. Are wikis limited to one page?No, you can create sub wiki pages using wiki words Can you have anchors within the wiki like you do on a regular Web site?Yes. Our wiki supports basic html. Is there way to "hide" a wiki page from the community?Not at this time. Is there a way a keep a wiki page from showing up as "Recent Content"?Not at this time. If a user publishes a wiki page (or content) on the wiki that's unwanted, is there a way for the member to remove or delete the page or content?Anyone can create a new revision that excludes the undesirable content, but outright removal of a page is limited to our moderators. How can I purchase a copy of the "Educating the Net Generation", "Learning Spaces" or "Cultivating Careers" books?These books are all available electronically for free. If you would like a bound paper copy, you may purchase them through Amazon.com.
