Mt. SAC uses Freshservice. We didn't have SNow money :-p PRO: Ticketing is good, price is OK, workflow automations are good, API is robust. Has PM and CAB built-in. Can separate "teams" for HR, Facilities, IT. CON: Inventory is "meh". Price is rising as they gain more market. ------------------------------ ...

We did that Zoom/Teams thing for routine, no-admin-rights-required things, and as a backup we've used RC Viewer over a VPN, but it's basically a reverse tunnel and we stopped doing that when we didn't have to any longer. Also, our end users are not admins. ------------------------------ Lee Jones (he/him/his) ...

Splashtop. I liked Anydesk better, but with their recent breach, we had to pivot quickly. Currently using Splashtop as part of our RMM suite, and all our remote endpoints had both Anydesk and Splashtop installed along with Microsoft MCM RC Viewer. Splashtop works well as a remote control solution. ...

Yeah, we reviewed BT/Bomgar as well, and the price increase plus the "early 90's" feel steered me away. ------------------------------ Lee Jones (he/him/his) Mt. San Antonio College Assistant Director, IT Technical Support lee.jones@mtsac.edu 909-274-5612 ------------------------------

We demo'ed with them, but didn't end up selecting them. Nice bunch, seem really eager to improve their product, too. ------------------------------ Lee Jones (he/him/his) Mt. At Mt. SAC we're similar to SLCC but we try to automate it a bit. All applicants get an account created automatically. For email, applicants are in an org unit that restricts send and receive to only the school. This way, student services and financial aid can contact them, but they can't activate Amazon ...

Hey Scott, if you lost in-house knowledge, migrating off SCCM may be best (IMO). You'll still need to maintain SCCM while you migrate, however. You mentioned Ivani for patching, so I assume SCCM is not handling any updates in place of Windows Updates. For Intune, are you co-managed? What is your Intune ...

We are not yet allowed to require MFA, so we can only verify identity from directory information. So, some overlap with Robin's approach. At Mt. SAC, we separate verification methods based on how they would be compromised. For example, a stolen wallet will contain their DOB and home address, and perhaps ...

Hey Bob, Sounds like your Generals/Instructors do not want to waste time with authentication to the computer but still want to maintain authorization to materials. I don't see how you can have your cake and eat it, too... except maybe with virtualization and hardware access tokens. If your ...

Like Carol, Mt. SAC also uses ECARS for ticket categories. We (try to) guide our users toward the service catalog that automatically categorizes tickets, and we have some automation rules that look for uncategorized tickets and attempts keyword matching. For ticketing, we're using Freshservice. -- ...

Not sure if by home use agreements you are referring to named user licenses? Mt. SAC is in California, so our Adobe licensing options are basically either SDL (on-premise only for shared devices) or NUL (like Don) with no real restrictions. Accessories - we haven't found a good virtualization solution ...

Cross-posting between IT Support Services and Microsoft Tools in Education. Has anybody out there migrated from MECM to Intune for endpoint management? Or maybe you just went all-in on Intune? I'd love to get your input on lessons learned, unexpected issues, and your approach. One challenge we have ...

Not us, but we don't deploy Zoom to classrooms, just to employees and to student loaner laptops. Two possibilities come to mind: if you are using a product like Deep Freeze, that might cause it if your MDM or deployment product has a condition that does not account for upgrades Let me explain ...

Depending on the MDM you use, maybe try Shared iPad Temporary Session? "In iPadOS 13.4 or later, any user has the ability to initiate a temporary session without the need for a user name or password by tapping Guest at the login screen. When a guest logs out, all their data-including browsing history-is ...

Hey Walter, just curious, for #1, what are you using now? I've used Zoom Phone, and the pro side is "easy to use" and "pretty easy for end users" - the con side is that it is a bit "basic" especially when it comes to call routing and anything beyond "pick up and dial." For a call queue (like and IT Help ...

I assume other institutions already automate the Adobe licensing for their students for off-campus use. So, before I create a solution and reinvent the wheel, what are other people doing? For employees, I've been using Adobe's API's to automate the license entitlement process. We use federated ID's ...

Hey Eric! At the core of our efforts, I think we all want to be as nice as possible! IMHO, it's just a matter of your institution's tolerance for risk. Our tolerance is quite low, and that won't work for everybody everywhere. It may also be a quantity thing and service expectations. We have about ...
