I have started looking into using AI to describe graphs. In the same way that automatic captioning is not perfect, the AI descriptions are not, but they are a huge time-saver in that they provide a great base-line for an expert in the field to edit. Far easier to correct than to start from scratch. ...

Laura, I absolute love the directive you received; it demonstrates a real commitment to making it work for the student. I wish more universities supported directives such as yours. Among the people I've forwarded your question to, one of them has familiarity with DAISY, so when I hear back from her, ...

This is tough. I'll forward your question to some others, way more knowledgeable than I on DAISY, who may have an answer for you. That said, I have come to learn that many Blind do not know the braille needed for certain kinds of academic material, and must gain better competency of assistive technology. ...

Good morning Cliff, thank you so much. If you know nothing else, please know that this is being worked on as we speak. I am in the accessibility group as well as in the HECVAT group, and I can tell you that this is a focus of our attention. Thank you so, so much for your commitment to accessibility. ...

I have to tell you that this is something very near and dear to my heart. There's a lot of password criteria, especially those that require special characters and/or upper-case letters, that provide challenges for certain assistive technologies. Time-restrictions and time-outs are certainly problematic ...

There's an article from NPR regarding discrimination against parents with disabilities; AI may discriminate against parents with disabilities, new investigation shows https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2023/04/13/ai-discrimination-parents-disabilities I'm curious if anyone has any stats on the relationship ...

Good evening, Ally friends. I'm curious about this community's input as it applies to AI. There's no stoping this thing, of course, but I worry about privacy issues and security issues with AI. It's my "sense" but I have no data to prove it, that a population that is dependent upon assistive devices ...

I one million percent agree with you, the forum was drop-dead PHENOMENAL. I agree that the fastest way to make a PDF accessible is to find it in an HTML format. It takes SO much training to learn how to make a PDF accessible, and the resources of time, training, and salaries are ones few of us can afford. ...

Honestly, I think Gary Morin's recommendation is probably the only realistic option. "Technically" speaking, an alphabet exists, but it will be poorly worded, and not sound like the normal Native American speech when rendered. We have very few libraries that map to Native American languages, which is ...

Thank you so much. So much is going on, so quickly, it is really hard to keep up. I am curious, was the recommendation to use videos to get around cheating? I do that too, but we found that an extension called Transcript or sometimes advertised as Transcript Study is being advertised to students as ...

Brad, the questions you are asking is one I think all of us are asking. We share your pain. Even if you get the inevitable pushback, there is value in the documentation of asking for it. Keep asking. Consider some observations from Section 508.gov's FAQ page on VPATs the section called, "I have ...

We rely on the Library links not only because of the savings in time, but for the very purposeful goal of taking advantage of the accessibility assets the Libraries pay so much money for. Libraries spend a lot of money to pay for accessible, inclusive technology -- unlike many commercial endeavors. We ...
