Part of my responsibilities at EDUCAUSE include oversight of our programs in IT Management and Leadership development.  Early in March, EDUCAUSE's Professional Development advisory committee will be meeting to review, among other things, the kinds of management and leadership development programming and resources that EDUCAUSE offers, and to discuss the needs of our community. The committee will make recommendations to the association about future EDUCAUSE efforts in this area.

I am anxious to hear from members of our higher ed IT community about what kinds of professional development opportunities you think are important, in particular in the area  of developing new managers and leaders.  You can learn about some what we already offer by viewing this matrix.

Some things to think about:

• What kinds of professional development programs do you find most valuable?
• What doesn't EDUCAUSE do in this space that you think we should be doing?
• Would you like to see more activities that are online/virtual?  F2F?  Why?
  

Perspectives from aspiring managers and leaders as well as from those who are now playing the role of mentor to younger staff are most welcome!  I look forward to any comments and dialogue.  Your thoughts will be shared with our committee at the March meeting.

Napster, the MPAA and ethical uses of the Internet--file sharing continues to be a hot campus topic. At the upcoming EDUCAUSE Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference a panel discussion will take place Wednesday, January 11 on "Sharing and Fairness: Rights and Responsibilities," moderated by my colleague Mark Luker, EDUCAUSE VP for policy.
