The program for EDUCAUSE 2008, "Interaction, Ideas, Inspiration," October 28–31 in Orlando is now online, with many new sessions ideal for networking.

EDUCAUSE announces a new EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR) study, Process and Politics: IT Governance in Higher Education, by Ronald Yanosky with Jack McCredie. This 2008 research study examines the extent of participation in IT governance by campus leaders and constituents; the use of IT governance mechanisms such as IT steering committees, project review, and performance measurement; and practices associated with good IT governance outcomes.

In a letter delivered this week, EDUCAUSE and several other groups have asked that Congress pass the Broadband Data Improvement Act and the Broadband Census of America Act before the 110th Congress ends. The groups say this legislation "would improve information-gathering about current broadband deployment and assist in targeting resources to areas in need of such services." The call for proposals is now open for the 2009 Southwest Regional Conference, "Balancing Acts: Making IT Work for Everyone,” February 24–26 in San Antonio. Note: This year, the conference begins on a Tuesday and ends on a Thursday.

The deadline for submissions is September 9.

EDUCAUSE announces a new ECAR research study analyzing a timely and complex IT issue facing higher education today. Because of the critical importance of this topic, the study report is available without charge.

This study, Higher Education IT and Cyberinfrastructure: Integrating Technologies for Scholarship, written by Mark C. Sheehan, explores higher education's involvement in five areas of research-related information technologies: high-performance computing resources, cyberinfrastructure applications and tools, data storage and management resources, advanced network infrastructure resources, and resources for collaboration within virtual communities. The study survey, developed in conjunction with Net@EDU, was completed by 369 North American colleges and universities and is supplemented by a dozen interviews with IT leaders.

Recently, EDUCAUSE completed a website infrastructure upgrade that will provide and maintain better content delivery services for members.
