New ECAR Study on IT Governance in Higher Education

ECAREDUCAUSE announces a new EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR) study, Process and Politics: IT Governance in Higher Education, by Ronald Yanosky with Jack McCredie. This 2008 research study examines the extent of participation in IT governance by campus leaders and constituents; the use of IT governance mechanisms such as IT steering committees, project review, and performance measurement; and practices associated with good IT governance outcomes.

EDUCAUSE Signs Letter Urging Congress to Support Pro-Broadband Legislation

In a letter delivered this week, EDUCAUSE and several other groups have asked that Congress pass the Broadband Data Improvement Act and the Broadband Census of America Act before the 110th Congress ends. The groups say this legislation "would improve information-gathering about current broadband deployment and assist in targeting resources to areas in need of such services." The deadline for submissions is September 9.

New Research Study--Higher Education IT and Cyberinfrastructure: Integrating Technologies for Scholarship

EDUCAUSE announces a new ECAR research study analyzing a timely and complex IT issue facing higher education today. Because of the critical importance of this topic, the study report is available without charge.

This study, Higher Education IT and Cyberinfrastructure: Integrating Technologies for Scholarship, written by Mark C. Sheehan, explores higher education's involvement in five areas of research-related information technologies: high-performance computing resources, cyberinfrastructure applications and tools, data storage and management resources, advanced network infrastructure resources, and resources for collaboration within virtual communities. The study survey, developed in conjunction with Net@EDU, was completed by 369 North American colleges and universities and is supplemented by a dozen interviews with IT leaders.
