5 things meme

Josie Fraser tagged me a couple of weeks ago over at SocialTech, so here's a belated response.  Basically, the idea is to post five things about yourself that your readers wouldn't necessarily know.

Memes like this combine large dollops of randomness with equal helpings of specificity. For me, they are interesting not so much because they reveal that, spuriously, Person X prides himself on his bow-tie tying technique, but because they point especially clearly to the way in which blogs, like other social-net type activities, create a kind of in-betweenness, or a "grey zone" where personal and professional identities blur. Given this, maybe the topics covered aren't quite so random, after all? An interesting exercise would be to analyse a handful of 'networked' contributions and thereby deduce "permissible topics" - this could be broken down further using categories such as type of blog (commercial/non-commercial, hosted/independent), intended audience, author occupation, etc.

OK, enough jabber, here's my five things:

1. One of my dreams is to become an alpaca breeder. I'm currently open as to the continent on which this activity might take place :-)
2. I sang vocals for the short-lived jazz sub-project of a Brisbane band called the Flying Taco Trio.
3. I am obsessed with modernist architecture from the 1920s and 30s.
4. In my student days, I was a DJ on a local community radio station, 5UV-FM.
5. I consider that a proper trifle contains: raspberry, strawberry, or port-wine jelly, sponge (preferably soaked in Madeira), custard, and whipped cream. Glace fruit, chopped angelica, and blanched almonds are all permissible decorations.

I tag:

Emma Duke-Williams, Matt Riddle, and Axel Bruns.
