Student Information Systems

Administrative systems should be affordable, flexible, and customizable. They should help end users plan for and achieve their goals and help them complete tasks along the way.

In this free July 22 EDUCAUSE Live! web seminar, Kuali Student: A Next-Generation Administrative System, presenter Richard Spencer, executive director of IT, University of British Columbia, will show how the vision, principles, and design for Kuali Student are aligned with these objectives and discuss why community source development was selected for this project.

EDUCAUSE joined the American Council on Education (ACE) in comments to respond to a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The EDUCAUSE contribution addressed the proposed rules treatment of Social Security Numbers (SSN's), Student ID Numbers, and Student User ID's in the context of "directory information." The comments state:

The session abstract:

This session will introduce wiki concepts and explore their use in project management and in supporting IT systems in higher education. JHU's implementation of a new student information system extensively uses an enterprise wiki, which will be highlighted, along with use cases, examples, and lessons learned.
