August 22--Free Web Seminar on Ithaka's Research Program: How New Technologies Affect Higher Ed

Ithaka's research group studies how new technologies are affecting higher education and how colleges and universities can best manage these changes in four discrete program areas: providing academia with the policy basis needed to transition effectively and responsibly away from print collections and toward increasingly electronic-only collections; helping information-services organizations meet the needs of scholars by understanding their changing attitudes and practices; improving the community's understanding of how new information resources drive teaching and learning practices; and analyzing strategies for the most effective possible dissemination of knowledge from colleges and universities to researchers, students, and other learners.

In this free August 22 EDUCAUSE Live! web seminar, The Strategic Impacts of New Technologies on Higher Education: Ithaka's Research Program, presenter Roger Schonfeld, manager of research, Ithaka, will review these areas of work and highlight some key findings, encouraging discussion about these and other key strategic issues facing higher education.

In this 14 minute podcast we feature an interview I did with Louis Molina, Professor of English at Miami Dade College. Professor Molina presented a session at the EDUCAUSE Southeast Regional Conference called "Using iPods to Enhance Learning Across the Curriculum".

Louis Molina taught two English Composition classes using the same curricula, and the same course objectives. One class was given iPods to keep class notes, assignments, supplemental information, and syllabus. The non-iPod class used traditional handouts, notes, and the Internet.

In this conversation, recorded at the EDUCAUSE 2007 Southeast Regional Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, Dean Hoskins discusses the session she presented at the conference entitled, "Effective Online Program Models from Faculty and Student Perspectives".

With online learning, we have moved beyond the early adopter phase and find ourselves seeking effective models and best practices to ensure we are delivering a quality educational opportunity. This presentation will identify nationally accepted criteria for effective online programs and evaluate the success of delivery models from all viewpoints.
