Paper accepted for Ascilite 2008

Today I was pleased to learn the paper written by my former CARET colleague Matt Riddle and myself has been accepted for the Ascilite 2008 conference this December in Melbourne, Australia. Our paper looks at students' ICT use in relation to their use of space; we have been doing a lot of work with maps!

I'm also looking forward to finding out more about Matt's role in an exciting new project on Spaces for Knowledge Generation, involving a partnership between La Trobe University as lead institution, Charles Sturt University, Apple Inc and Kneeler Design Architects. In January 2009, Matt and colleagues will be making a study tour to the US and UK to visit partners and institutions with key interests in learning space design.

E07 Podcast: Top-Down or Bottom-Up? Designing and Redesigning a Digital Campus Somewhere in Between

This thirty-two minute podcast features a session from the EDUCAUSE 2007 Annual Conference. The session, "Top-Down or Bottom-Up? Designing and Redesigning a Digital Campus Somewhere in Between," is presented by Hans Ogg, Head of the IT Department at INHOLLAND University of Professional Education. PowerPoint slides are also available for this session.

Four years ago, INHOLLAND university launched a learning scenario that required the latest in electronic communication and collaboration tools. The new digital campus that was built is being redesigned now using Windows Vista and SharePoint 2007. What was learned during these past few years, and what did the designers hope to achieve now?

New ELI 7 Things... Brief Explores Second Life

The ease in which users can build and modify virtual spaces has made it an attractive choice for experiments in learning space design and educational experiences such as virtual field trips or the creation of galleries to display student-created media. The 7 Things You Should Know About Second Life, EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative’s (ELI) latest brief in the monthly series, examines how Second Life lets educators easily build and modify learning spaces to test how different strategies for a physical space affect learning and how a similar approach can be taken toward educational activities in those spaces.

Browse the complete 7 Things You Should Know About… monthly series.
