 <description>&lt;p&gt;The annual Horizon Report is a collaborative effort between the New Media Consortium (NMC) and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI). Each year, the report identifies and describes six areas of emerging technology likely to have a significant impact on teaching, learning, or creative expression in higher education within three adoption horizons: a year or less, two to three years, and four to five years.&lt;br /&gt;The areas of emerging technology cited for 2006 are:&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#8226; Social computing&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#8226; Personal broadcasting&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#8226; Cell-phone-accessible educational content and services&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#8226; Educational gaming&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#8226; Augmented reality and enhanced visualization&lt;br /&gt;&amp;#8226; Context-aware environments and devices&lt;br /&gt;Each section of the report provides live Web links to example applications and additional readings.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

 <description>One of the NLII&#039;s top priorities is the fostering of market structures for the development and delivery of interactive learning materials. The program is focused especially on markets that provide the evaluation, acquisition, distribution, and publication of proprietary, Web-based digital learning materials. Patrick McElroy, founder of Learning Content Exchange and NLII annual meeting 2003 general session speaker, has worked with publishers as well as courseware and technology companies in helping them create business models and distribution strategies for digital content.</description>
