Abstract:Today, there are 7.5 people for every 10 information technology jobs; this statistic is expected to hold for at least 10 more years. Institutions of higher learning are finding it increasingly difficult to retain IT staff and are finding themselves at a disadvantage when competing with the private sector. This article discusses the power of mentoring within higher education IT departments, and offers ideas on how to develop beneficial mentoring models.
