Abstract:The University of British Columbia is working with other institutions to develop a community source, next-generation student system that will use a service-oriented architecture. We will describe our approach to community source projects; a standards-based, service-oriented architecture; and the goals and design concepts for a new, open-source, student services system.

They wrestled with various technical, functional, and organizational issues that could be loosely described as "kindergarten activities"! Share their perspectives after two years on the trials and joys of such community initiatives.
