Abstract:

As a takeoff on the popular reality TV series Project Runway, Project Technology follows six faculty during a school year as they attempt to effectively integrate technology into their teaching to enhance student learning. Session attendees will learn and see firsthand how faculty members struggled with and mastered new technologies.

Abstract:The University of Wisconsin System sponsored a major project to evaluate the interactive classroom technology known as student response systems or "clickers." This session will report on the data collected, including faculty and student evaluations, from more than 28 courses enrolling 3,500 students at four UW campuses.

Abstract:This hands-on seminar addresses the driving forces behind educational technology change and helps participants outline strategies for how their institutions can deal with these changes from the theoretical "innovation adoption" and "change process" perspectives as well as practical approaches. We will present a case study of the process used at the University of Missouri-Columbia including statistics to collect, partnerships important to nurture, and "costs" to consider in a successful migration scenario. Participants will then work on developing consolidation/migration plans and discuss those strategies.

Abstract:This seminar will provide a concrete model for faculty technology development with a pedagogical perspective. Participants will experience components of a participatory seminar developed at St. Lawrence University, where faculty explore the learning management system as a framework for the discussion on digital natives and the Net Generation. Presenters will share experiences and resources from a well-established faculty technology development program, much of which is transferable to other institutions, with the intent to facilitate adaptation elsewhere.

Abstract:CALI sponsored a project in which 50 faculty from 45 different law schools used podcasting in their courses. This presentation will demonstrate the open-source system we built to handle it (called Classcaster), discuss the lessons we learned, and talk about how any educational institution can add a scalable podcasting system to its repertoire.

Abstract:We will present our experiences with DyKnow, software that fosters classroom engagement by allowing teachers and students to share and annotate material during class. Although DyKnow runs in various environments, our use incorporates electronic whiteboards and pen-based computers (tablet PCs). We will describe system features, underlying pedagogy, and evaluation results.
