Abstract:IT policy issues, once the province of the campus IT leaders, now demand an increasing share of attention across the entire campus executive leadership. As IT becomes a critical, core service of campus operations and a central feature of strategic plans, it must rise to the level of boardroom discussions. Hear how the American Council on Education, EDUCAUSE, and other higher education associations work together to create and share a "higher education position" on pressing issues such as network neutrality, CALEA, and P2P file sharing with campus and government leaders.

Abstract:The government is increasingly looking to Internet service providers, including colleges and universities, as a source of communications data to aid in the investigation and prosecution of illegal behavior. Recent government initiatives include the USA PATRIOT Act, CALEA, and European Union Data Directive. This session will explore emerging legal and policy issues for higher education as Internet access and content providers.
