Abstract:

Successful higher education e-learning environments exemplify clear alignment among seven factors: objectives, content, instructional design, learner tasks, instructor roles, technological affordances, and assessment. Objectives and assessment are commonly misaligned, but misalignments can be addressed using instructional designs focused on authentic tasks and assessments.

Abstract:The University of Wisconsin System sponsored a major project to evaluate the interactive classroom technology known as student response systems or "clickers." This session will report on the data collected, including faculty and student evaluations, from more than 28 courses enrolling 3,500 students at four UW campuses.

Abstract:The SURF Foundation, the Dutch sister organization of EDUCAUSE, funds a number of initiatives that aim to increase science and technology student numbers in the Netherlands in accordance with EU policy. The presentation critically discusses competency-based assessment tools and didactics of remedial education in science and technology studies.

Abstract:We will present our experiences with DyKnow, software that fosters classroom engagement by allowing teachers and students to share and annotate material during class. Although DyKnow runs in various environments, our use incorporates electronic whiteboards and pen-based computers (tablet PCs). We will describe system features, underlying pedagogy, and evaluation results.
