Abstract:

As a takeoff on the popular reality TV series Project Runway, Project Technology follows six faculty during a school year as they attempt to effectively integrate technology into their teaching to enhance student learning. Session attendees will learn and see firsthand how faculty members struggled with and mastered new technologies.

Abstract:This seminar will provide a concrete model for faculty technology development with a pedagogical perspective. Participants will experience components of a participatory seminar developed at St. Lawrence University, where faculty explore the learning management system as a framework for the discussion on digital natives and the Net Generation. Presenters will share experiences and resources from a well-established faculty technology development program, much of which is transferable to other institutions, with the intent to facilitate adaptation elsewhere.

This practical seminar will help institutions determine the current state of their faculty's technology use, illustrate emerging instructional technologies, and provide strategies to help instructional designers and faculty design pedagogically effective activities and applications for the next generation of learning tools and students.
