Overview of U.S. Federal Government Identity Management Initiatives

Peter Alterman will present an overview of the federal government's electronic identity management initiatives, focusing on eGovernment and eCommerce. He will touch on the government's electronic security initiatives as they interact with the eGov services efforts and suggest how these two threads will impact identity management for colleges and universities in the near future.

Mark Franklin will explore how PKI addresses many of higher education's increasingly urgent needs for cyber security, presenting his vision for using it to enable strong and universal digital authentication, signing, and encryption applications in higher education. He will describe Dartmouth University's deployment as an example of PKI at work.
