Learn how Indiana University has successfully implemented the world's largest installation of the Sakai open source collaborative learning environment on eight campuses statewide. This presentation will look at the present state of affairs, anticipate what's coming in the future, and make a case for cross-institution collaboration to establish our own administrative systems future.

Abstract:We will discuss and demonstrate open-source development tools and languages from the PHP scripting language to the Apache Web server, including the object-oriented capabilities of PHP, the modular aspects of the Apache Web Server, and reasons for using open-source software. We will look at the Linux Operating System and compare platforms. Using these freely available tools, you can build enterprise-level solutions unavailable with commodity software.
