MIT recently completed a benchmark study on the use of educational technology in subjects considered to count toward the core curriculum (General Institute Requirements). This presentation will discuss how the data was collected, analyzed, and implemented.

This session will demonstrate how a redesign in overhead slides can create presentations that foster a more learner-centric rather than teacher-centric model. A change in emphasis from verbal to visual promotes active learning and increases comprehension, encourages deductive reasoning, and improves retention.

In evaluating student computing, Computing Services discovered that many students found campus computer labs inadequate for collaborative work. This presentation will cover the redefinition of one lab from assessment of student needs to space redesign, implementation, and initial follow-up assessment.

Tablet PCs used in undergraduate field courses in archaeology and ecology have transformed the way we teach field-mapping and data-collection concepts. Curriculum redesign and assessment strategies were applied to two unique classes, introducing tablet PCs, an emerging mobile technology, with the goal of improving how spatial data are handled, viewed, and collected.

Although located just 20 minutes apart from each other, Rhode Island School of Design and Bristol Community College are worlds apart. A prestigious art school and a community college are both using Digication’s dynamic e-portfolios to assess student learning and showcase their work.

How do you actively engage students when they all have laptops in class? Among other techniques, engagement is achieved through focused activities by using collaborative note-taking, student response tools, and content replay. This poster will illustrate uses of DyKnow to help students and faculty achieve this goal.

Course lecture capture provides many positive benefits to enhance student learning by providing on-demand access to recorded class lectures. We will share the results of our pilot including implementation challenges, student and faculty feedback, and assessment data.

In 2002, UNH inaugurated a Faculty Instructional Technology Summer Institute (FITSI) to help our faculty explore emerging instructional technologies and instructional design best practices. This session will report how the overwhelming success of FITSI has led us to expand it to a national audience.

A Flash-based streaming video gallery using a multipanel interface was developed to assist a Media Studies instructor to replace a series of VHS tapes for in-class use. This single interface provided both student and instructor with single-click access to a series of curriculum-related videos directly within their Blackboard course.

WordPress, an open source content management platform, can be used to implement Web 2.0 learning initiatives without the need for a team of programmers. We will demonstrate how Yale is using WordPress for collaborative script analysis, audience driven theater events, and courses where students contribute images and podcasts.
