The phenomenon of social networking software like Facebook has been widely publicized. At UNC-Chapel Hill, over 90 percent of first year students are Facebook users. But is there utility for faculty and staff? Yes! This presentation will describe the uses of Facebook that might benefit many of us.

Abstract:The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech implemented a new online system that replaced printed annual reports for faculty with a Web-based system. This system automatically counts items such as unique publications and has been used to evaluate faculty for merit adjustments.

Abstract:Two years ago, UMBC offered teaching, learning, and technology "mini-grants" to encourage faculty to develop innovative approaches to instruction and enhance students' technology fluency. Awards could be used individually or spread across a department, but recipients were required to present their approaches at an annual TLT fair.
