Implementing an Electronic Annual Reporting System for Evaluating Faculty Performance

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech implemented a new online system that replaced printed annual reports for faculty with a Web-based system. This system automatically counts items such as unique publications and has been used to evaluate faculty for merit adjustments.

Two years ago, UMBC offered teaching, learning, and technology "mini-grants" to encourage faculty to develop innovative approaches to instruction and enhance students' technology fluency. Awards could be used individually or spread across a department, but recipients were required to present their approaches at an annual TLT fair.
