Exciting to be back!

I am excited to be back to EducauseConnect. I regisered a couple of years ago and wasn't active as I should have been! I have a blog in Blogger - Teaching to the Future and I also have a Pedagogy 21 pbwiki, and I am constantly teaching and exploring new technologies and tools. I found interesting postings on Educause and enjoy learning more new things! I am back!

Abstract:

Many of the emerging Web 2.0 technologies pertain to communication innovations. Using the communications theory of diffusion of innovation, this presentation will examine the adoption and implementation of wikis and their related pedagogical approaches. Methods for institutional implementation will be proposed to answer questions of sustaining the initial adoption phase.

Launched in January 2006, the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) at the University of South Carolina is located in the heart of campus in the Thomas Cooper Library. Enabling the wise use of new technologies to enhance student learning and providing synergy to campus teaching support activities through a systems approach are two of the CTE's five stated goals. To achieve these goals, the CTE created a new associate director position for teaching technology excellence.

Abstract:

This presentation will discuss the results of a yearlong study on using social networking technology to facilitate collaborative research in undergraduate-level English courses. Students collaboratively constructed wikis that served as research guides and incorporated a wide range of primary and secondary source material. The project brought about many successes and raised issues about what we value in student writing and research, as well as what we hope to gain from employing these new and ever-changing technologies in humanities courses.
