Change Management and EDUCAUSE2007

ITIL, the Information Technology Infrastructure Library, is a process-based framework for more effectively managing IT services. Although just emergent in higher education, it has been widely adopted in industry. It is surprisingly well-suited to higher education. This session will introduce ITIL and serves as a companion to another session describing Yale's experience implementing ITIL.

Changes to complex systems require careful planning and coordination to ensure additional incidents are not created in the production environment. This presentation will detail how Marquette University implemented ITIL-based change management to stabilize the infrastructure, gain visibility of work, and comply with financial audits.

After years of dynamic technological change, current economic circumstances continue to necessitate ever more transformation. Pressing needs to reformulate budgets, strategic plans, and organizational patterns require leadership at all levels of an organization, in informal as well as formal networks. This meeting will explore ideas and best practices for managing in our present climate.

Those of us in the world of higher education technology services find ourselves entwined with change. Our role usually involves facilitating change across the campus community. We force change on others, but do we embrace it ourselves? This presentation will propose fundamental strategies IT departments can employ to improve their employee climate.

Florida State University has used business intelligence to reengineer much of our admissions processes, including decision processing, back-office workflow, data auditing, and reporting. Leveraging data gives us a strategic advantage in managing head count, quality, and diversity. We will discuss data uses, as well as organizational and process change.
