 <description>Technology attracts students but institutions restrict network activity. Instructors try to incorporate technology in courses, but policies specify what they can install or access. In visiting 15 institutions, the presenter observed a variety of approaches to open source discipline (not enterprise) software, open content (copyright issues), and open networks (what&#039;s blocked).</description>

 <description>One of higher education&#039;s strengths is the desire and ability to share information. Open source software and open architected systems that facilitate interoperability enable sharing in a way that leverages collective expertise. This presentation will clarify the difference between open projects, open architectures, and open source, as well as take a look at the major collaborative software initiatives in higher education today.</description>
