Abstract:

UNC Wilmington analyzed their outdated, time-consuming, and cumbersome business processes in the Graduate Admissions Office and reengineered them using workflow and imaging technologies currently available in both cost-effective and time-efficient ways. The reengineered process not only allows us to successfully recruit bright and talented applicants but also enables us to fulfill UNC system strategic goals and initiatives. The implemented process saves personnel hours, reduces application decision time, and enables us to be a greener university while affording us more time for student recruitment. Join us for a metaphorically journey through the metamorphosis of cocoon to butterfly.

Abstract:

Overrun by paper, Temple University implemented a document imaging and electronic workflow solution to improve the processing of over 300,000 paper documents associated with the undergraduate admissions process. This implementation not only eliminated paper but also reworked the internal processing of applications and completely automated the entire admissions process.

New ESI and E-Discovery Page Posted at EDUCAUSE Connect

On the newly posted ESI and E-Discovery resource page, resources regarding the December 2006 amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure concerning the discovery portion of the litigation process are now available. Although discovery has included electronic materials for some time, the amendments specifically recognize electronically stored information (ESI) and E-Discovery, the process by which ESI is exchanged during the early stages of litigation.

The resources available were provided by colleges, universities, and other parties interested in helping institutions of higher education formulate their own policies to handle ESI.

Abstract:In 2004, the Dickinson College Office of Admissions decided to implement a document imaging system to improve the operations of the applicant review process. The current solution provides staff with real-time access to applicant information. We will explore the phases of the implementation, examine the current solution, and discuss lessons learned.

Abstract:Arizona State University has successfully implemented a Web-based application that may be customized for more than 90 academic units across 277 degree programs. Supplemental materials are captured in their native formats and automatically loaded into our document imaging system. This presentation will cover the methodology for developing this system and the outcomes, along with an online demonstration.
