Abstract:

Dickinson College and Pennsylvania College of Technology recently implemented portal solutions in under 365 days. This presentation will describe the high-level planning and management of fast-track portal implementations. The necessary decisions and trade-offs realized will be highlighted. We will also present the lessons learned from our 365-day portal implementations.

Abstract:

To discourage repeat student violations of the UMBC academic integrity policy and to encourage faculty to report them, the Office of Information Technology used the campus portal to track, report, and alert all parties of AI incidents. Summary reports publicly document UMBC's change over time and students' changing behavior.

Abstract:Coppin State University uses iStrategy's higher education analytics application to satisfy complex NCATE accreditation reporting requirements. This presentation will discuss the use of delivered PeopleSoft functionality to track performance in required course rubrics and demonstrate the range of analytical reports that illustrate completion rates for each rubric.

Abstract:The Office of Student Activities and First-Year Experience and Information Technology's Web Technology group developed a module for our campus portal that put first-year students' paper forms online. Better tracking, improved reporting, and higher rates of return were among the improvements that will be discussed.

Abstract:Johns Hopkins University has expanded and enhanced its student ubiquitous computing environment over the years, without increasing the number of staff supporting it. Meanwhile, the IT environment for students has improved by using automated Resnet registration and recommending standard laptops with bundled IT support and integrated wireless networking.

Abstract:Two institutions compare how they use technology to prepare for new students. Franklin and Marshall uses technology to enhance advising sessions while Georgetown uses technology at a distance before orientation weekend. Despite the size differences of the institutions, they share similar successes and challenges in using technology to welcome new students.
