IT- Library Collaboration

Panelists from academic computing and the library in three different types of institution will discuss the approaches their organizations have taken as they foster digital humanities research projects. Discussion will focus on the particularities of digital research projects in the humanities, the collaborative relationship of the contributors, and sustainability and scale.

Come learn about innovative work being done in the Midwest region at this brisk, lively showcase of five-minute presentations from ten of your peer institutions. Time will be allotted for Q&A, and informal interest groups may be formed on the spot at the end of the session.

This study aims to look at the impact for users on university library and information technology services, present and future, following merger. The study examined user survey data from the early 1990s through the 2006 LibQUAL survey, collected information through interviews with faculty and Information Services, and examined the National Science Foundation and the American Council of Learned Societies reports on cyberinfrastructure. The paper finds that while the merged information services organization is not yet a resounding success from the perspectives of staff in information services or faculty, it is a brave attempt to respond to the future.

This presentation will evaluate a project to implement a team-based library multimedia services program and look at ways to partner with central university services.

This session will use the InfoCommons at Northwestern Library as a case study to examine a very successful partnership in technology application and space planning between two high-profile campus entities.

Libraries are supporting the teaching and research missions of universities in new ways, such as providing expertise in digital curation, electronic publishing, and content development. At the University of Kansas, the Scholar Services program strengthens an evolving research environment by promoting best practices and innovation in cyberinfrastructure and digital scholarship.

Library and IT staff collaborated with various academic offices to create an online submission system and repository for required undergraduate interactive and major qualifying projects. Project reports are required to be submitted online. This presentation will review the submission process, repository, documentation, tutorials, and user education.

Disruptive changes affect all teaching and learning activities at institutions of higher education. Support organizations, especially the library and IT organizations, are often the first to react to but risk being overwhelmed by these changes. Rather than simply react to change, this session will argue that libraries and IT organizations need to define their own futures.
