A Campus-Wide Approach for Mobile Learning with iPhones

Ninety-seven percent of students enter college with cell phones, yet few universities leverage this ubiquity for teaching and university life. Colleges have two choices: continue to treat mobile devices as a nuisance, or embrace them by leveraging their mobile learning capabilities. ACU's expanded view connects academic, social, and infrastructural m-learning applications.

Toward True Mobile Learning: What Do We Need in Remote Areas?

Mobile learning becomes true mobile learning when instant feedback is provided on the spot, even in remote areas. In various fieldwork settings students used General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) connected Pocket PCs and reported on theirfindings. We try to determine what information and level of connectivity students need when working in the field.

Wireless Handheld Computers in the Enterprise: Big Planning Issues for Small Devices

Wireless-enabled handhelds are becoming more ubiquitous--and simultaneously more challenging in terms of support and interoperability. But they also represent powerful tools for teaching and learning. To realize their potential and create sustainable support models, institutions like USCS must plan strategically for the future of handhelds in campus computing environments.

PDA Initiative: A Two-Year Experiment

The University of South Dakota began an initiative with Palm, Inc., last year that provided handheld computers to all first-year freshmen, medical students, and law students to help them in their course work. During year two we also partnered with Extended Systems to provide content to students. This presentation will describe the process we went through and explain what is working and what is not.
