Why is technology often blamed when bad behavioral things happen? This session will address how higher education provides American society with leadership on how to understand the role that technology plays, not only in our classrooms but also in our homes and families, as a conduit for the creation of culture and as a medium for individual development and identity formation of youth.

ACID, the Art Center Identity System, was rapidly deployed in three months, from development to rollout. This presentation will discuss how Art Center decided it needed an identity management system, chose Sun JES identity management software, planned delivery, and integrated the identity management system midterm. We'll share some identity management lessons learned that can benefit any institution.

While students and educators clamor for unfettered access to the Internet, IT professionals are shoved against the firewall by the likes of the RIAA and the Union of Concerned Parents for a Safe College Experience. What are the educational arguments for open networks in higher education? Can’t the kids just look at YouTube and Facebook at Starbuck’s? What’s the use of an open-laptop, Internet-enabled classroom? What’s the duty of an educational institution regarding digital rights management? Is censorship of particular sites or content the proper role of higher education? This lively session will discuss these and other topics.
