This one-hour podcast entitled, "Net Generation Students and Campus IT: Supporting Student Success in the Age of Multitasking, Facebooking, and Instant Messaging," was recorded at the EDUCAUSE 2007 Southeast Regional Conference. Moderated by Jeanna Mastrodicasa, co-author of Connecting to the Net.Generation: What Higher Education Professionals Need to Know about Today’s Students, this panel discussion features students Olivia White, Agnes Scott College, Joan Collier, Georgia State University, Chris Davis, Georgia Perimeter College, Irakli Gabruashvili, Georgia State University, and Anu Parvativar, Georgia Institute of Technology. They share candid advice for higher education, from the reality of file sharing and laptops in the classroom to their distaste for textbook prices and faculty Facebook friends.

In this 44 minute podcast, we hear the opening keynote address for the  2007 Western Regional Conference entitled  "All Aboard the Digital Express". This keynote is presented by Linda Thor, President of Rio Salado College in Tempe, Arizona.

Four distinct generations, from the tech-savvy to the tech-challenged, are enrolled in higher education today. Are we as educational leaders in tune with their wants and needs? In an era where students can text message their registrations, how many bells and whistles should we offer them? How do we manage to track trends? This presentation will explore possibilities and innovative solutions for the digital age. 

Kate Wittenberg on How Students Are Transforming the World of Information

As part of my continuing series of interviews leading up to the ELI 2007 Annual Meeting, I talked with Kate Wittenberg, Director of the Electronic Publishing Initiative at Columbia University, or EPIC. She will hold a featured session at the annual meeting on Wed., Jan. 24, from 8:00-9:00 AM entitled “While You Were Out: How Students Are Transforming the World of Information and What It Means for Publishing.”


In the interview, Wittenberg provides a brief overview of the new ways in which students are developing content and using information, and what that means for the development and management of information resources within the university. She also describes EPIC and how its efforts in digital content development reflect current and emerging trends in student creation and use of online content.
