Google Trends in Educational Technology

Thanks to Mauro Cherubini who alerted me to the usefulness of Google Trends in locating and defining current trends in educational technology.
Mauro uses Google Trends to show how the terms "e-learning" and "mobile learning" are doing in relation to one another -- I was surprised by the result. Searching for "learning objects" and "blogs" is instructive... see diagram.
Who knew Australia was such a hotbed of learning objects! Or that Singapore was home to so many blog-happy citizens...

I've also thought about what D'Arcy talks about within the larger context of Institutional Repositories.
Finally, I've also thought about Google Trends within the context of search engine opitimization ... compare the search trends for weblog, weblogs, blog and blogs for instance ... if most people search for one vs. the other, might one want to make sure to use the term blog in relevant areas of content instead of the other. I dunno, but it is certianly interesting to think about the variety of ways that this data might be used.
