Abstract:This is an article from the electronic journal, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication (vol.1, no.1) in a special issue on collaborative universities. This article discusses the issues of physical and electronic space in telecommunication-based academic collaboration and how physical space impacts work. The article outlines a history of city space and university space, and then concludes with considerations on how the collaborative university can preserve the pleasures of physical space, while leveraging the efficiencies of telecommunications.
