EduSpaces: saved by the bell

Like many people, I received a rather terse email over the Christmas period (Dec. 16) informing me that the EduSpaces services was due to be terminated. I'm still catching up with the story. While I've been on holidays, there's been a fair bit of to-ing and fro-ing about the news in the ed tech blogosphere, so I'm pleased to read that the Curverider folks have now reached an agreement with TakingItGlobal.org. EduSpaces is not going to go away!

I agree with previous comments that this has been a bit of a salutary lesson for some. Eduspaces was a free service, and while it could certainly be argued that by opening the service to a user community, Curverider in some sense also laid themselves open to accruing a kind of "social obligation" to that community, that's a fairly nebulous thing. Whether or not such an obligation might ever be seen to be legally enforceable (with respect to a free, independently-provided community service), I very much doubt, and thankfully this particular scenario will not now have to function as any kind of test case!
