Questions:

1.  What kinds of data will you need to collect and analyze to make the decision?

Technological / sustainability

- how does it act on different platforms/os, or is it a server-based app?

-- how much training does it take?  are there hidden costs?

Pedagogical Use

- is this a solution only for the humanities?

- are there assignments that require the use of it

- are there syllabi that include it

- how many classes? 

- how effective is it in promoting student learning outcomes in the context of specific classes? 

- how satisfied are students, faculty, and other stakeholders with ease of use? 

- collect ethnographic data

 

2.  What kind of test or pilot program should be undertaken, one that is realistic and will yield the data you need?

a.  Survey market for alternatives, check peer insitutions.  If so, comparative testing as described in b. 

b.  Target a few non-standard courses across the curriculum to gain proof-of-concept.  These courses should require use, agree to participate in the evaluation.  Modular model to suit time constraint for product evaluation. 

3.  Who do think would be the key stakeholders and sponsors involved in this?

faculty, administrators, departments.  center for teaching and learning, provost, [cio already interested], library=sponsor,  students, sponsors=academic affairs/provost,

4.  What kinds of data, do you think, your stakeholders and sponsors would find helpful and useful?

story - specific examples including time impact.  tie to specific learning outcomes, staff time/convenience

5.  What kinds of information will lead to the decision to gloss or not to gloss?

what is the total/real cost

will it be sustainable

will it be useful across the curriculum (student learning outcomes)

does it provide new opportunities for student learning experiences
