About MeMy BioReceived a BA in Mathematics Education in 1966 and an MS in Computer Science in 1968, both from The University of Iowa (UI). Served as a Research Assistant for the Institute of Child Behavior and Development (computer applications programmer) while a graduate student. Continued career as a computer systems administrator at the UI's Weeg Computing Center, eventually serving other positions as a Research Projects Leader and Assistant Director for User Services. During two different leaves of absence, worked in Hewlett Packard's Information Networks Division in Cupertino, CA. Joined the UI Department of Computer Science in 1978 as Assistant Research Scientist and Adjunct Assistant Professor. Served as Acting Chairman of the Department in 1987. In 1993, became Associate Vice President for Research and CIO at the UI. While on leave from the UI, served as Program Director for Advanced Networking Infrastructure (CISE-ANIR) at the National Science Foundation 1998-2000. Returned to the UI as Senior Associate Vice President for Research in 2000. Has served as Interim Vice President for Research since March 2003. Has served or is serving on numerous civic boards and councils, including CICNet Board of Directors, UI Wesley Foundation, Iowa Department of Economic Development, Iowa Learns Council, Iowa City Area Development Group, and Cedar Rapids Priority One economic development group. As time permits, loves cycling, yard work and gardening, wilderness canoeing, fishing, reading, and the Hawkeyes! |
