About Me

My Bio

Alan Levine is the Vice President Community and CTO for the New Media Consortium. In this role, he explores and evangelizes new technologies to the NMC and other educational communities, with current interests in anything "cool" on the web (no matter the decimal point), virtual worlds, blogs, wikis, digital media, and anything that allows creative expression.

Before this, he spent 14 years evangelizing technology for the Maricopa Community Colleges, whwere he hoisted a web server back in 1993. Alan was a key contributor to significant efforts such as Ocotillo, a faculty-led initiative that promotes innovation and drives change, created the Maricopa Learning eXchange (MLX), a virtual warehouse of innovation that pioneered the use of RSS in syndicating learning object content, and developed Feed2JS, an open source software shared for allowing people to easily incorportate RSS content into web pages. Alan works from home in Phoenix, Arizona, and continues to publish his work on CogDogBlog.

Although he tends to say "ummm" a lot and never uses a script, Alan has presented at the League for Innovation, EDUCAUSE, and Syllabus conferences, as well as invited presentations for institutions in Oklahoma, Florida, Oregon, Ohio, British Columbia, Iceland, New Zealand, and Australia.
