My Bio

Dr. John Campbell is the Associate Vice President of the Rosen Center for Advanced Computing at Purdue University. In this role, he is responsible all aspects of research computing support including computational clusters, grid technology, large scale storage, visualization, science gateway development, faculty consulting, and user training. John currently oversees a staff of nearly 60 people. John was awarded the 2006 IT Leadership Award for Pedagogy and IT Practice by EdTech Magazine. He was also awarded the 2007 “Ones of Watch” Award by CIO Magazine.

Prior to his current role, John served as Associate Vice President for Teaching and Learning Technologies and other academic technology appointments since 1990. In these roles, John provided leadership in the areas of academic analytics to improve student success, the integration of mobility into the instructional environment, and the introduction of high performance computing into the curriculum to provide a basis a real-world environment to improve problem solving. John has published over 25 articles and book chapters and presented at 75 national and international conferences.

John was a 2007 Scholar in Residence with EDUCAUSE – the professional organization representing information technology in higher education. He currently serves on the Committee for Institutional Cooperation’s (Big Ten) Research Computing Group. He previously served as chair of the CIC’s Learning Technology Group and EDUCAUSE’s Advisory Committee for Teaching and Learning (ACTL). John serves on the editorial boards for EDUCAUSE Quarterly, Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE) Journal, and the International Journal of eLearning.
