NLII Annual Conference

Wish I was there

Created by Jennifer Lee Reeves (University of Missouri-Columbia) on March 07, 2005
I was sitting here thinking about podcasting... It's my new obsession since the NLII Annual Meeting. Members of the Missouri School of Journalism are about to take on another podcasting adventure while I'm at a seminar. I wish Sarah Ashworth, Kyle Palmer and Brendan Watson all the best as they try to push the podcasting limits again. I can't wait to hear all the new content!!

Lessons from the NLII Conference

We may have left the conference, but that doesn't mean podcasting ends there. University of Missouri student Kyle Palmer and graduate Sarah Ashworth asked around before everyone left and found out what they plan to take back to their campuses. We had a great time podcasting. Thanks to everyone who joined in the fun!

More details on the Apple Digital Campus

Created by Jennifer Lee Reeves (University of Missouri-Columbia) on January 25, 2005
I'm lucky to be a part of one of the first five universities involved in the Apple Digital Campus. It's given me a chance to help think and talk about innovation in and outside of the classroom. Now all higher education institutions are invited to join as well. University of Missouri student Kyle Palmer gives us some more perspective and details about the Apple Digital Campus and how you can get involved. This is an updated version of the podcast... So feel free to download it again. But you'll need to delete the old version "Apple Community" from your iTunes. I've learned from experience that it won't accept a new version of a file that has the same name unless you delete the old version first.

I wanna know

I've been madly podcasting during this entire conference... And now I'm sitting back and watching our team of reporters, Sarah Ashworth and Kyle Palmer edit our final piece. It's 5:30 and the conference is really officially over in 30 minutes... But for most, it ended 5 and a half hours ago. So I sit here in the lobby of the hotel as I look at the number of hits to the various podcasts I've uploaded. I'm proud so many people hit the audio files. We've worked hard and learned a ton about how to do this podcasting thing. I'll be honest. Three weeks ago, podcasting was a topic discussed in my technology committee emails, but I hadn't had the time to play. (I have a 2 and 1/2 year old) Now I'm hooked. I have to start my own podcasting site somehow and share audio clips of the boy so family and friends can listen on their iPod. (My kid sings a mean alphabet song and Jingle Bells) Anyway. Now I'm really curious. Did you listen? Did you subscribe to iPodder or iPodderX? Did you get your clips from someone else's iTunes? I want to know how many people out there are enjoying our work. I'd love to know if you thought the whole podcasting experience was worth the effort to download into your iTunes or MP3 folder. I'm hooked. I can't wait to take this experiment to my campus and start talking about the many uses. I hope you had as much fun with it as much as we did.

Apple Digital Campus

On the final day of the NLII Annual Meeting, five universities came "out of the closet" to talk about a new community that is forming in conjunction with Apple Computer. Yvonne Belanger of Duke, Cole Camplese of Penn State, Susan Metros of The Ohio State University, Melissa Poole of University of Missouri's School of Journalism and Victoria Szabo of Stanford University each talked about the projects they've worked on in partnership with Apple. At the same time, Carl Berger officially invited your school or university to join the new forming Apple Digital Campus. If you'd like more information, email Peter Hoffman of Apple: phoffman@apple.com or CSU-Monterey Bay's Professor and Idea Lab Director John Ittelson: john_ittelson@csumb.edu

NLII Learning Initiatives

The NLII is headed into a new direction: Working to leverage IT innovation across the learning enterprise. On the final day of the conference, EDUCAUSE Vice President Diana Oblinger and University of Central Florida Vice Provost Joel Hartman spok about EDUCAUSE's Learning Initiative. This is the full feed of their presentation, along with questions from the audience. (This audio file is now updated and should work properly! Sorry for the trouble)

Open talk about dinosaurs

You know them... They're the tenured professors who strongly resist new technology. University of Missouri student Kyle Palmer talked to NLII annual meeting attendees and found out how some universities deal with this challenge.

Learning the ropes

You're listening to a podcast... So that obviously means you understand technology. Sarah Ashworth asked around the conference to find out how to really learn the technology that we can use to teach.
