Abstract:Two higher education consortia in Massachusetts are designing and building dark fiber optic networks to connect their member institutions to each other and to points of access for the Internet. This session will discuss the technical, political, financial, and organizational issues related to planning, building, and managing a fiber optic network.

Abstract:The Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium is working with 11 institutions to create an e-portfolio system that meets common needs. This FIPSE-sponsored project has required inter-institutional planning and goal setting, the creation of a student-centered e-portfolio system, and local dissemination efforts. Both the process and its product will be shared.

Abstract:The Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium provides its 42 members IT services including a portal Web site, course-management software, course hosting and development, faculty training, help desk, online assessment, and a student financial-aid database. The Consortium is a model for expanding learning technologies while containing costs and maintaining effectiveness.
