  • WEBINAR: Taking a mosaic approach to AI in the writing classroom

    When: Thursday, May 8, 2025

    Time: 4 PM EST

In the last few years, many tools have quickly emerged that can successfully complete many traditional assessments and a number of AI detection tools quickly followed in an attempt to solve this problem. Unfortunately these tools are imperfect, at best, but they still have a use.

In this talk, University of Colorado Assistant Teaching Professor and Learning/AI Strategist Chris Ostro will detail the ways he has leveraged these tools, along with others, in a “mosaic approach” to help safeguard integrity in his course, but more importantly to get us all past the “cops and robbers” phase and back to the student/teacher dynamic.

  • Join us for our Small College Technology Leaders CG conversation (Wednesday, 4/30/2025 @ 3 PM EST)

Ron Loneker, Jr., Director, IT Special Projects at Saint Elizabeth University and co-lead of EDUCAUSE's Regulated Information Security Compliance CG, will give a presentation of how a small university addressed GLBA compliance last year that included requirements of the FTC Safeguards Rule, which created a heavy burden on many schools.

  • Crisis Communications - casual conversation

    Wednesday, April 30, 2025
    1-2pm Central
IT Communcations professionals often field or participate in Crisis Communications for their institutions. In a recent Monday Office Hours, two of our members offered to kick off an open mic conversation for anyone interested in comparing notes.
Kickoff Speakers, answering 3 questions to inspire other participant's questions and comments:
Zoom host and conversation facilitator: @Carlyn Chatfield from Cornell University
    Time zones:
    • 2-3pm Eastern
    • 1-2pm Central
    • noon-1pm Mountain
    • 11am-noon Pacific
    • 10-11am Alaska
    • 8-9am Hawaii-Aleutian

The three questions Jon and Deirdre will answer to kick off this conversation are:

    1. How did you get involved in Crisis Communications and is that still part of your role?
    2. What is your go-to tool for keeping your head in a crisis?
    3. Talk about an incident that went well as far as crisis communications.

Due to the sensitive nature of the topic, we won't record this unstructured conversation. However, Carlyn will add a list of the resources shared in this discussion to the IT Communications Library and send that link out to the discussion list.

  • Pacific ADA Center Newsletter: Black History Month

    Hi DIT Fam!

I want to highlight and share the Pacific ADA Center Monthly Highlights with you all.

As you know, February celebrates Black History Month. It is a time to honor the many contributions and rich history of Black Americans who have shaped this country and society. This year’s theme, African Americans and Labor, highlights the important ways that work, in all its forms, intersects with the Black American experience. Black people with disabilities have and will continue to lead the way in advocating for equal employment and business opportunities. Some current leaders to celebrate include:

    • Haben Girma: A disability rights lawyer who advocates for inclusive businesses and organizations.
    • Keisha Greaves: CEO/Founder of Girls Chronically Rock, an adaptive clothing company.
    • Daryl "Chill" Mitchell: An actor and advocate for employing Black and actors with disabilities in the entertainment industry. He served as an ambassador for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

In the fight for disability rights, Black Americans with disabilities, including  Brad Lomax and Lois Curtis, played key roles. Brad Lomax helped lead a successful sit-in as part of a nationwide anti-discrimination campaign on behalf of people with disabilities. Lois Curtis was one of the plaintiffs in the landmark Supreme Court case Olmstead v. L.C. (1999), which established the right of individuals with disabilities to live in their communities or the least restrictive settings possible.

Please bring any new burning questions so we can discuss them in our open exchange.
