Collegiate esports programs have proven to be a valuable asset to student recruitment, retention and engagement across college campuses in North America. The introduction of collegiate esports programming into the scholastic space has magnified student interest for esports and gaming related careers. In today's networked world, IT support for communication and collaboration — whether it be in the cloud or on-premises, hosted or self-supported — goes far beyond basic data networking, telephony, and video in order to provide essential services to the institution. Higher education IT units are increasingly multicultural and they serve multicultural communities where demographics (race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and age) continue to change bringing both benefits and issues to the workplace. Computing issues and approaches at very small schools can bear little relationship to what is done at schools with thousands of students. This fact led to the 1992 creation of ACCESS (Administrative & Campus Computing Environments at Small Schools) for small colleges and private secondary schools, with enrollments of less than 1,000 FTE.
