  • Mobile Technology CG Meeting - Discussion Preparation

    Hello Mobile Technologists,

Can you believe that it's SNOWING in Denver today?

  • ITPSM - Annual Meeting, 10/25/22, 1-2pm, Hyatt Regency, Centennial Ballroom A

    Dear ITPSM,
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our annual face-to-face meeting next week.  Details and agenda are below.

    DETAILS
IT Procurement and Supplier Management (ITPSM) Community Group - Annual Meeting
    10/25/22, 1-2pm
Hyatt Regency Hotel, Centennial Ballroom A (Level Three)
650 15th Street, Denver, CO 80202 (directly across the street from the Convention Center)

    AGENDA
    ---Compelled Licensing (Loren Malm)
Many vendors offer software under terms such as "free for non-commercial use" or for academic but not administrative use, made freely available to everyone with little more than a click of the mouse. While this general practice is not new, I now see more highly aggressive vendors pursuing compelled licensing, even where institutional use is only suspected. Almost immediately, these vendors demand inflated no-bid enterprise contracts and threaten legal action if their demands are not met. Even more troubling, certain vendors almost "bait" their offerings and play up the "free" angle, sometimes burying the usage restrictions in the click-through agreement.

---Risk Mitigation for Contract Reviews (Teri Abbo)
Interested to hear how others are approaching risk mitigation for contract reviews while securing Cyber liability insurance or the limits preferred are being impacted by the costs and impact as a result of the uptick in ransomware attacks. Are there other contract provisions that you are tightening up on and what are you including as additional protections.

    ---Renegotiations (Tally Thrasher)
IU is interested in how other schools handle renegotiations, especially related to large enterprise wide software contracts. When we start early, the suppliers tend to drag their feet and then we end up pressured at the end. Do others experience these same issues? In addition, thinking about Qualtrics, they come at us with a large price $$$ when we are at a point where we cannot easily change course.

---Initiating ITPSM Virtual Meetings (Jeff VanderVeen (Grand Rapids CC), Brian Luper (Rutgers), Ron Dinning (WUSL))

    ---Financial Sustainability (Teri Abbo)
Would love to hear from someone who has success with Marketspace application deployment and how they are leveraging the ROI using utilization reports.

  • Itana Book Club Invitation

It is that time of year again!  We are soliciting INTEREST and BOOK IDEAS for the upcoming Itana Book Club.

For those unfamiliar with the Itana Book Club, we select a book and have 2 or 3 calls over a period of a few months to discuss as we read it.  We then report what we learned during a Friday Itana call session.  It is open to anyone interested in Itana and is an easy, low commitment, fun way to interact with your Itana colleagues.  You are welcome and encouraged to join even if you can’t commit to fully reading the selected book or join the discussions.

This will be our 8th book and we need your assistance to pick one for this session.  Visit the Book Club Itana Page to see what we’ve read to date.

Please sign up using this Google doc or contact me directly at Jonathan.DuChateau@wisc.edu if you are interested in joining the book club, have a book to suggest, or if you are interested in helping to facilitate this year’s Itana Book Club.

    • Institutionalizing user experience.

We encourage you to introduce yourselves, start up a discussion, and spread the word about the group.

  • How to Get Involved or suggest topics, questions, ideas...let us hear from you!

    Hi CRM Community Group members,

This week, we held our first leadership group meeting for those who volunteered to help plan and run the group. We now have a rough outline of our plans and have regular planning meetings scheduled. It’s not too late to join! Reach out if you’d like to be added to the planning meetings.

Based on the CG survey we did some weeks ago, most people are interested in having group calls to discuss specific topics, and creating community artifacts such as RFP templates, business cases, licensing information, etc.

There seems to be a lot of interest in informal, recorded “pop-ups” where institutions give brief overviews of their CRM implementation. We held our first pop-up session Thursday on “How I am Implementing Salesforce” and had almost 40 people attend! The slides and recording have been posted in the CG library. The pop-up featured University of Michigan-Dearborn, Cornell, and Florida State giving a brief overview of their CRM implementations.

We have several opportunities for involvement in this group!

    • Volunteer to join the leadership planning group
    • Present about your institution’s CRM implementation in a future pop-up. The format is 10 minutes of presentation for each institution, in groups of 2-3 institutions. That leaves plenty of room for Q&A in a 1-hour call. We will record all sessions and post slides/recordings so that we can all learn from each other. If you’re interested, post a note in the CG discussion and see if you can find someone willing to present with you, then post an announcement with the zoom link and date / time. Becky and I can help group you up if you need assistance. We’d love to hear from you!
    • Let us know in this spreadsheet if you have a topic for a future virtual meeting. If you want to volunteer (or volunteer someone else) to facilitate the discussion, that’s great! If you just want to raise a potential topic and don’t have a volunteer, that is also fine. You can also input ideas for artifacts.
    • Coming soon: “brain date” meetings where people submit questions or problems related to CRM and ask for advice; we will sort into breakout rooms with each room discussing the question or problem at hand. If you’ve got a problem to submit, volunteer in the spreadsheet and briefly list your problem/question under the “notes” column.
    • Go to your Educause Profile and fill it out so that we can learn more about each other. Within your profile page, be sure to visit “My Account” - “Privacy Settings” and allow at least “Members Only” so that others can see the appropriate parts of your profile. I believe they are set to “Only me” by default. Pay special attention to whether you are allowing others to send you messages or add you as a contact, as those can be good ways to get in communication.

We are looking forward to getting to know all of you and having lots of great discussions.

    Enjoy your weekend,
    Carrie
