Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Eric G, on each floor of the survey there is typically one or two other APs using the same channel as the AP in a given room. not sure how to view the difference in RSSI between APs. Jeffrey S: I found 11k and 11v in the controller WLAN config. They are not ...

Update: We upgraded the 8540 to 8.10.162.0 per cisco TAC's instructions and this did NOT correct the problem. I opened a new case with TAC and they are saying that I need to upgrade again, this time to 8.10.162.10. I will want to see some pretty strong corroboration from them before I do that, since ...

One of our residence buildings started reporting very poor wifi performance in mid January. I ran a survey with Ekahau and, sure enough, the wifi quality shows as pretty bad. The building has plenty of APs (cisco 1815Ws in the apartments, 2702Es in the public areas) and when we checked we found that ...

Nope, mine does not behave that way. If I hover over an AP either the neighbor links show up immediately or they do not show up at all. Waiting doesn't do anything. You are correct that the links do not show up for a given AP if it is selected.

In cisco Prime under "Maps / Wireless Maps / Site Maps" I am seeing inconsistent behavior. If I hover over a given AP and change the radio button from "Info" to "Rx Neighbors" I will see lines radiating outward from the AP I am currently hovering over to neighboring APs, presumably indicating some kind ...

I am not 100% certain what the previous version was - it was upgraded by an employee who is no longer working here. The "Emergency Image Version" on the WLC is 8.1.102.0, if that helps. -Mat

I assume you mean the chipset on the APs (?) In case I had not mentioned it before, the AP reloads started immediately after we upgraded the controller version to 8.5.182.0. -Mat

There are crash logs for the APs on the 8540, and all that I have looked at so far give the reason for the crash as "kernel panic". I got logged into one of our APs but it looks like our current security settings are preventing me from sending tftp or scp traffic anywhere. I will need to talk to someone ...

I have now "power inline port 2x-mode" for all the APs located in one of the six buildings exhibiting the most reboots. Total of about 100 APs there. if the problem goes away in that building I'll know that fixed it. Thanks. -Mat

We don't have any other controllers running any other version of the code, unfortunately. Otherwise I would certainly try that. It does appear that the increase in the number of daily reloads aligns pretty much exactly with the date of the upgrade to the current controller version. -Mat

We are using Prime and I have been scrutinizing the "Alarm and Events" section under monitoring tools. There is nothing in there that correlates to the timestamps of the AP reloads, as far as I can see. -Mat

8.5.182.0 is the currently running version. it is an HA pair and as far as I can tell it has been stable. -Mat

I've been trying to figure out a way to do that. Unfortunately no one AP has rebooted itself more than 3 times in the last 3 weeks, and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when they do it. It would be a real stroke of luck to catch one in the act. -Mat

One building has all 3560G switches on 15.0(2)SE4, one has all 9200 switches on 17.3.3 , and one has 4506E switches on 3.11.00.E. No commonality there.

All that shows on the switch is "interface changed state to down" and then "interface changed state to up" a couple minutes later. No other messages referencing the AP. -Mat

They are not. One building has old 3560Gs, some have 4506Es, some have 9200s. That command does not seem to be implemented on the 3560Gs but it is on the 9200s. I can check it out. Thanks. Fortunately the one with the 3560Gs is scheduled to be renovated soon and will receive new switches.
