I have a web page which mentions many products/sites related to plagiarism.Cheating In a Technology Rich EnvironmentCombating Plagiarism with Technologyhttps://hescgi.oit.ncsu.edu/chitre.html I try to keep it up to date - but ... Anyhow, if people have additional products to mention or see any needed ...

Plagiarism is an interesting topic - and I have to disagree somewhat with Trisha Bertram Gallant of UCSD as to why students cheat. My experience is that often cheating is due to desire to avoid work, to having other things to do, or to get a better grade/credential. Regardless of the motivation, instructors ...

Implementing AI based technology in products is interesting and important - but I'd like to dive back into the questions raised by the Zoom aspect - the security/privacy of what we discuss and show over Zoom, or any video conferencing. We show/discuss material covered by FERPA, possibly valuable intellectual ...

Taylor - thanks for the link to the Chronicle article. (I would have read it anyway, but now I've read it sooner.) I'll encourage everyone to read it! (Note that there are 3 parts - you can get to the other two from the link to the first one.) Also, there's a link to a very informative article published ...

Some really important aspects have been brought up - I'd like to add another perspective. First is the effect of the size of the campus - the numbers of students and faculty, the amount of research, etc. A small campus needs pretty much the same types of IT services that a large campus needs, but in ...

I participated in a workshop to explain Bloom's levels to instructors - and it seemed to work well. Here's the presentation (the discussion with the participants and their suggestions weren't captured.)https://hescgi.oit.ncsu.edu/Stop.html "Stop Student Complaining" --henryNC State Univ.Prof. Emer.

As Christopher and Doug indicate, this is a complex situation with many moving parts. In our higher ed situation, cost is always important - so I'd like to focus on one aspect of cost which everyone knows about, but sometimes gets lost in discussions. A benefit of on-prem provision is that the total ...

Jen, thanks for your discussion of how to keep remote students engaged - I think you have some terrific ideas. I'll add one more aspect which I think is quite compatible with what you cover. Formative Assessment of each student's progress during the course is difficult in large courses - here's what ...

Sharon, Thanks for the Turnitin links. The videos are very interesting and informative - and not sales talks. We don't use Turnitin (at least not campus-wide) but it's always worthwhile keeping up with what they are doing - so I recommend the videos to all teachers, not limited to our accessibility ...

Carine,This method only applies to the student looking up answers in the course material on the LMS. That appears to be the preferred source for a course. We use the Moodle LMS, and the student logs in to take an exam. The login is recorded in the log as coming from that student. I'm assuming that no ...

One of our faculty tried a different approach to proctoring - and it caught a number of violators. It was to examine the log-in log for the LMS which had student IDs and time of connection. If the student connected to the LMS during the exam - whether it was one the computer being used to take the exam ...

"burned in" - the last I looked (has it changed?) screen readers could read text, but not pictures of text. I think that this is what "burned in" means. The video showing text presents pictures, but captions are actually text which screen readers can handle. --henry

I'm going to take a small nibble of the big questions discussed by Heather Brown - she quotes a syllabus as saying "... all work submitted by the student must be their own work, without outside assistance in any form." I intentionally typed "syllabus" with only one "l", and the real-time spell checker ...

re: Dan's ChatGPT response to "What should instructors do to prevent cheating using ChatGPT?" I thought that the response was reasonable - although I thought that some of the suggestions were silly or unreasonable, they could have come from a real person. So I submitted that to the huggingface analysis ...

l'll emphasize one consideration which has come up indirectly. If you need to break the contract because of an accessibility problem, even though there is no monetary charge there can be a substantial cost to your campus. That's the cost of obtaining a replacement and of doing all of the uploading, training, ...

Marg, Thanks. I'd be happy to send the gathered comments to cielo24 - or should each person do it on their own? I think that their email address at the bottom of the .pdf hello@cielo24.com might be the one to use. --henry
