Thanks for the input everyone! Since we are limited to the PDFs for this project, I'll tag each equation as an image and then send it to a math professor who volunteered to write in the pronunciation as alt text. Cheers,Elizabeth

Hi all, I have a couple of PDFs that need to be made accessible for public website purposes, and they include some complicated math equations such as: I know accessible math stuff has been developing recently and wanted to know if anyone has recommendations for how I should go about tagging these ...

Thank you everyone for your responses. I especially found Laura and Mark's responses helpful for considering the purpose and intent of EEAAPs, so double thanks to you both as well. Looks like I will be reworking our EEAAP policy and discussing process updates with the business systems analysts to account ...

Hi all, I request EEAAPs from departments purchasing software that isn't accessible, but when it comes to software used in some science, nursing, math, and accounting courses, we sometimes run into the issue of there just not being an alternative. Either they're using an industry standard software ...

Hi Everyone, I could have sworn we had a meeting where we talked about this but I couldn't find any info of it in my email records - is anybody currently located as an accessibility person under Diversity & Inclusion? I'm working on some proposals for different departments accessibility could be ...

Hi Nadine, My understanding is that colors need to be distinguishable when communicating information and the issue with red and green is that they're not distinguishable from each other for people with deuteranopia, so the issue is with using both red and green to communicate something. The other issue ...

What is the context around this? Is it a general letter for anyone's use or issued to a particular institution?

Hi Mary, This happened once to me (the NDA, not the clean room) and it was because they did a full accessibility report including screenshots of the interface and detailed information about the product, not just a VPAT. The clean room under supervision bit does seem like overkill to me. I can understand ...

Hi all, Does anyone have experience with accessibility education or support programs that have incentives? I created peer support groups to encourage people to consult each other (and look at past solutions I shared with the group) regarding accessible documents, partly to create a central repository ...

I don't think I've ever had anyone confuse "accessibility" with disability services - I'm much more likely to get questions about account access, and specifying digital or IT doesn't help. "digital-accessibility" is just really long to type for a URL. I do use "digital accessibility" in training titles ...

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has had success implementing widespread automatic captioning such that it's available for every on-campus event and/or available in the majority of classes. Specifically, captioning that is always available and part of the standard process, not just provided on ...

Same here - faculty are technically responsible for their own documents. We have "accessibility point people" in each department, mostly admin assistants, who are supposed to check the document and notify faculty of any errors; realistically some of those people end up doing the fixes themselves. I pretty ...

Hi all, Would anyone be willing to share about accessibility staffing levels/structure at your institution? (e.g. how many people are working on digital accessibility, is it an individual/individuals on other teams working on it, or a team dedicated to accessibility, etc.) I'm working on a proposal ...

Hi Doug, Thanks. That's the idea I had too. We'll plan to leave enough time to do that next semester, and I will be discussing with the design team whether we can create an image library that has all or the most common symbol combinations so they can input the alt text while compiling the documents in ...

Hi all, I've got a last-minute puzzle wherein the commencement program that was intended for print (and thus not made into an accessible digital format) now needs a digital version since they are unable to print enough copies due to budget constraints. The best option here would be to convert it all ...

Hi Don, Thanks for the comparison. I will ask the user who encountered this problem for more details and see if we can replicate your experience with a fresh table as a baseline. Thanks,Elizabeth

Hello all, Has anyone encountered issues with Microsoft Excel exporting to PDF, and all of the lines of the table showing up as paths in Span tags? I confirmed the user did not use PDFMaker when exporting (instead used Save As and chose PDF as the file type), but I can't find record of this bug anywhere ...

Hi all, I just got my MacOS updated to Big Sur and Microsoft Word updated to 16.53 and the accessibility checker is not checking for heading issues (ie I deliberately put in skipped headings and it reported no error) and it no longer turns up warnings for repeated blank characters. Has anyone else encountered ...
