We enabled eduroam during a spring semester, encouraged students to migrate, then disabled our branded SSIDs over the summer. By fall, everyone was online. It was bumpy, but having our helpdesk involved from day one paid off handsomely. During our migration, both SSIDs were functional. One risk ...

To tag along to Pepino's mention of game consoles ... as we transition to a new NAT solution, we're looking to enable endpoint indepent mapping & filtering (https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc5128.txt). Our understanding is that this should help alleviate some of the game console issues. That has yet to be ...

We currently use an F5 and some fancy iRules to NAT our student traffic. Those boxes are approaching EOL, and we are finishing an evaluation of F5 vs. A10. As part of that replacement, we'll expand the scope to include the majority of our users (fac/staff + students + guests) and shift to CG-NAT. ...

You mentioned classes & conferences. For wireless, we've gotten a lot of mileage from sending staff to the WLPC conference in Phoenix every year (https://wlanprofessionals.com), their presenters are rockstars. The bootcamp that precedes the conference follows the CWNP certification track, which is a ...

We, and it seems many peer institutions, run a dedicated proxy for off-campus users to access library journals. This has been the solution for the past twenty years, but it seems most journals support federated identity. Has anyone worked with their library to successfully retire their legacy proxy ...

Similar story here. When we moved away from our IP PBX to Microsoft Teams for telephony, we took the opportunity to streamline our billing. We proposed that centralized funding for telecom would save the effort of 1.5 FTE. Between generating, paying, reconciling bills, it's probably not far off. Basically, ...

I'll second what Ryan suggested. EAP-TLS has proven to be rock solid, once the device has been enrolled with a certificate. That enrollment process can be bumpy. In our case, SecureW2 definitely helps. But the OS vendors are making it more and more difficult for an end user to stumble through the process. ...

We've heard through the grapevine that universities can apply for an exemption to the Federal Universal Service Fund charges that are passed along by our SIP provider. But everything I've found online says that you're only exempt from paying your carrier if you pay the FCC directly. Before I give up, ...

I would recommend partnering with an onboarding app. We use SecureW2 for EAP-TLS and highly recommend them. They do a good job keeping up with the client operating systems and their ever-changing requirements to install certificates. I know there's been chatter on this list about SecureW2 and other possibilities. ...
