Hi Jackie, good to see you on here. I'll love to see more discussion among state systems, so much to learn from each other. I'll not be around long to learn it myself! But glad there are great leaders like you to carry on. Michael ------------------------------ Michael Berman California State University, ...

I've been thinking a lot, and having discussions with my peers, about how we're going to have to learn how to operate IT with fewer people in our organizations, as recruiting and retaining talent will become increasingly difficult for most of our institutions. ------------------------------ Michael ...

Hi, I published this at LinkedIn this week, and based on the reaction I though some of you might find it useful so I'm reposting it here. The Three "D"s Plus One – a Simple Framework for Contingency Planning I've been hearing from my colleagues in higher-ed IT that they are facing a critical lack ...

I'm pleased to announce that after some twenty years in CIO roles, I am planning for retirement from the California State University. I will continue through Spring 2022 in my current role while the CSU searches for a successor. I'm looking forward to developing my fledgling career as a songwriter ...

Hi Joe, point taken. I of course know exactly what I mean when *I* use those words and I want everyone to interpret them the same... ------------------------------ Michael Berman California State University, Office of the Chancellor mberman@calstate.edu ------------------------------

Personally, I am very happy that I no longer read this via email -- the Connect interface is quite good. The labelling is exactly why I love Slack -- channels give you a natural way to partition group communication. Email is a crappy discussion format IMO. ------------------------------ Michael Berman ...

To be clear Allen, "forming a committee" -- to me, that is a strategic issue. It's about governance and relationship building. Which brand of X to buy is not. Thank you for your comment. ------------------------------ Michael Berman California State University, Office of the Chancellor mberman@calstate.edu ...

Thanks Marty, and good to hear from you. For me, it's not a matter of who to include, but what to discuss. I have no problem with it being an open forum, I would just like a place that had fewer tactical issues and more strategic ones. I appreciate the thoughtful responses from you & from others. - ...

It appears to me that the EDUCAUSE CIO constituency group is evolved to be dominated by tactical issues - primarily product evaluation and discussion. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that at all -- clearly it's meeting a need for a lot of people, and that's good. However, I find myself wishing ...

So much good advice from so many people I respect. I'll just add that if you do the right thing, you may pay a price, but you will never regret it. Best of luck! For me -- this new platform is a huge improvement over the 1990's Listserv technology. The ability to scan through and quickly see the topics of conversation and dip in on the ones that I am interested is so much better than getting hundreds of emails that I rarely get through. Thank you to everyone ...
