We are a Ekahau shop, but we have an eye on Hamina like many/most others. One of our engineers won a "lifetime" aka 5 year licnese to Hamina at WLPC, so he is taking a deeper look for us. We plan to get the Oscium Nomad for comparison to Sidekick2 devices that we are currently using for survey. (assuming ...

I apologize if this is a duplicate but I don't think my original was sent a few weeks back. I have a question for the community on how your institutions segment endpoints. The question stems from discussion(s) about what capability our information security group is going to need in the future. For example, ...

We have used the Corning media converter solution for a call box. It's exactly what you would think, except the one we had was for 1G/10G solutions and it didn't work with the 100Mb 2N device in the call box. I believe Corning has newer hardware and software to better support that 100M applications. ...

We had a similar experience for stacks of 3850P and 3850U switches. There seemed to be a point at which the stack could not share enough power across the stack cables. (typically when we had a lot of PoE devices connected) In our case we would put one leg into utility power and one leg into UPS, however ...

Has anyone ever run into a problem with USB-C to Ethernet adapters failing? I have a ticket for eight USB-C to Ethernet adapters failing. I'm told 8 out of 16 have failed in the last six months. The eight failures are across multiple brands/models: Belkin, Startech, Trendnet. These particular adapters ...

One last request, and I'll stop bugging everyone for a while. Thank you again to everyone that has filled out the survey. Thanks again to those completing the survey. Here is the link again for those still interested in filling out the 25 question survey. (should be 100%) Here is the AP hardware replacement cycle. I was surprised by the 5 year lead. (we are a 6 year cycle at ND) Here is the controller hardware replacement ...

Happy Friday everyone! I hope this message finds you well. I'm working on a follow-up Wi-Fi Survey we did in the community way back in 2016. This 25-question survey collects information about your wireless infrastructure so we can compare and benchmark with other schools. My hope is that it takes ...

Thank you for the responses on and off list. I figured I'd summarize the responses and include what we have been doing. Choose/Install equipment that serves the location/resourcesLike other responses, we are moving remote sites toward cloud-based management where it makes senseReduce complexities at ...

I think JJ might made the comment about not doing transition mode on WPA3-PSK. Modern devices that support dot1X are likely to support WPA3. Or maybe you are thinking about the warnings client computers might present, not that it breaks in particular but it could cause the tickets to flow. I saw ...

Lee, Funny you mention Meraki; we are doing similar things after talking to you a while back. In some locations, we use Meraki gear and allow others to access the dashboard. (primarily AV so they can reboot PoE microphones and such) A few years ago, we paid an electrician to replace a failed Meraki switch ...

Sorry if this is a repeat question/discussion. Anyhow, how does everyone find/recruit contractors to help at remote sites? I'm thinking two different levels: structured cabling and general IT support. Some of our out-of-state/out-of-country remote sites have IT-specific staffers, but never a structured ...

Sorry for not posting this earlier. I don't have to sell the benefits of working at higher ed to this group, so if you like great work culture and a low cost of living.... Notre Dame might be the place for you. Our campus infrastructure team has embraced a wireless first directive. If you love the challenge ...

We have/had 802.11r disabled due to problems with Android phones as stated, some Chromebooks (maybe not an issue anymore,) some very low end Lenovo Yoga tablets (hopefully aging out soon,) and of course various IoT devices/instruments. For us, the number of devices that do not support 802.11r (or handle ...

This sounds like the MacOS DNS issue our folks have been talking about. Have you tried the newest AnyConnect client? (For that specific issue Cisco documented the problem as being MacOS framework issue... so maybe not the same issue just similar symptoms.) For our field staff, the problem was on wired ...

That would be ideal to only use specific #'s. That might be something we have to campaign for in the future. Right now campus safety wants a recognizable number... the same recognizable number(s) that a spammer would want to spoof. Just knowing that it works for another school is helpful to make our ...

We have a few systems that spoof the inbound number (Ex. Rave for emergency notifications.) I believe we have made some blocks like the campus police #. Maybe we just need to block everything and build some processes around allowing certain numbers to be spoofed. Thanks for your thoughts on this. ...
